Dental Implant

WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?

A dental implant treatment is a type of artificial tooth root that is inserted into the jawbone to complete the missing teeth. The screw for this is made of titanium. Titanium is a tissue-compatible material that has no allergic or toxic effects; it binds very well to bones.

In addition, the implant can be used only to replace a single tooth without the need to cut the adjacent teeth, but even in the event of complete loss of dentition, with the support of these implants, more useful prostheses can be provided that have a better grip.

When treating dental defects, the implant is more aesthetic compared to other methods, ensures better chewing and is more compatible with the surrounding tissue. If teeth are missing, implant treatment is the best and most natural treatment.

WHO IS SUCH A PROCEDURE SUITABLE FOR?

The implantation can be used on anyone over the age of 18; bone development must be complete. There is no upper age limit. It is necessary that the bone structure and quantity in the area where tooth deficiency exists is sufficient and oral hygiene is good. In addition, there must be no gum problems, systemic diseases (uncontrolled diabetes, excessive smoking, weakened immune system) that have a detrimental effect on healing. If such problems exist, they should be treated before implantation. In patients with bone weakness due to bone resorption, bone can be created using various methods or bone grafts (bone addition) can be used, only then can implantation take place. The implant is made of titanium and there is no scientific data to suggest that titanium causes cancer.

ANESTHESIA METHOD

Local anesthesia (As a rule, this method is used. If necessary, sedation is added to local anesthesia (mild drowsiness, intravenous sedation).

General anesthesia (can be used in extremely stressed patients and during long operations).

HOW TO PROCEED?

The duration of treatment depends on the site for implantation, the bone structure, whether additional treatments are required, and the patient’s oral and general health status. The procedure involves surgery to cut the gums and insert a titanium implant into the jawbone. Stitches are removed after 1 week. After 2-3 months, the denture (fixed denture) is placed on the implant and the treatment is ended. In some cases the treatment time can be 2 months, in other cases it can take up to 9 months.

* Laser implant treatment: This method allows the implant to be placed without cutting and stitching the gums. With this method, the implant can be fused to the bone more quickly using the laser. Since there is no seam, there is no need to wait a week. The implant is placed on the same day. The treatment is finished on the same day. If an implant has been placed in a visible area such as the front teeth, a temporary denture will be placed on top of the implant with a waiting period of 2 to 3 months for the appearance. After this time, the patient comes and the temporary denture is replaced by the permanent denture. The treatment is completed. Under normal conditions, the dental implant can be used for life. To do this, you need to visit a dentist regularly and maintain good oral hygiene.
